As the result of a division in the Paddington Parish, the Woollahra Church (St Columba) began its first service in the Oddfellows Hall in Queen street on 12th of February 1888.
Rev John Walker had been called and was inducted as the first Minister of the Parish on 31st of July 1888. The first portion of the building was opened on 8th March 1890. A second section in 1894 and the front and upstairs section in 1960.
Both churches were established as Presbyterian congretaions until 1977 when Woollahra & Double Bay congregations joined the Uniting Church which were formed with Congregational Union in Australia, the Methodist Church of Australia, and the Presbyterian Church of Australia.
Since 1935 St Columba has been to the annual Pozieres Service in late July each year. This year is the 100th anniversary of this battle in France in 1916 which involved the 1st Battalion AIF.
